Destroyed buildings and burnt cards were seen in Cap-Haitien, Haiti’s second-largest city, on Tuesday after a petrol tanker exploded killing at least 62 people and injuring dozens.
A truck carrying the fuel tipped spilling the fuel and has also burned dozens of homes.
“It was a disaster that surprised us, it was 11 am to midnight, when we received calls from the population asking us for help because of the fire,” said mayor Yvrose Pierre.
“We have 48 seriously injured people who will be transported by helicopter to the Mirbalais hospital. There are patients who are in the hospital and the number is increasing every moment,” he added.
