Haiti: Deported from US, angry migrants await documents and compensation at Port-au-Prince airport

Newly arrived Haitian migrants were seen showing their discontent at the Toussaint Louverture International Airport at Port-au-Prince, on Wednesday, demanding the return of their passports and compensation.
Migrants have been receiving $100 (€85, £73) and a COVID-19 test upon their return home, but as the number of flights increased, with the US sending seven planes back to the country on Wednesday, many were left waiting for their compensation outside the airport.
“They deported seven Haitian planes, it hurts me. In a country where there is no work, they sent me to the army. We have our families, our children in the country, and the Haitian leaders agree to sign our deportation,” said a migrant who described Haitians as living ‘in misery’.
Thousands of Haitian migrants crossed the US-Mexico border in recent days, having fled the instability caused by the assassination of their president and a devastating earthquake over the summer.
