Members of the Vishva Hindu Parishad (VHP) group gathered outside the Bangladesh Embassy in New Delhi, Wednesday, to protest recent violence and vandalism on Hindu people and temples.
Violence has erupted in recent weeks in Bangladesh against Hindus in the majority Muslim country. Attacks have led to the deaths of at least six people, according to local reports. Hindus religious sites and Hindu people’s homes were also targeted as several temples have been vandalised and at least 20 homes set alight.
Protesters in New Delhi are calling for action by the Bangladeshi government to support those displaced by the destruction of homes. “Strictest action should be taken against the perpetrators and those who have burnt the houses of our Hindu brothers should be punished. The Government should ensure the burnt temples and houses are rebuilt, ” VHP member, Deepak Rana said.
The spate of violence began following an alleged blasphemous incident involving a Quran.
