Afghan interpreters and contractors who worked for UK troops stationed in the country held a protest in Kabul on Friday to ask for protection from the British government amid a Taliban surge across Afghanistan.
The protest comes amid calls to get Afghan interpreters and other workers who cooperated with foreign military forces out of the country, while United States, United Kingdom as well as other countries troops and NATO troops complete their withdrawal from the country.

SOT, Former interpreter: “Today we are gathering here alongside the other interpreters here, we are holding our rights for UK people and we are asking [for] our rights. We have been working for a long time on frontlines with UK forces but unfortunately our cases have been rejected for no reasons. We are asking [for] our rights, we are here to hold our right to work, we are here to tell to the UK people, to request, please, kindly do us favour and not leave anybody here. Everyone is aware that the situation is very bad here in Afghanistan.”
SOT, Former interpreter: “We are here to hope for the British government and Mr Boris Johnson, all the interpreters and [unintelligible] mechanics which [sic] worked for the British forces in Helmand province, also in Kabul and [unintelligible]. Life is in high risk in Afghanistan, as you know the Taliban is coming soon to get all the power in Afghanistan. We are scared from them and our life is in high risk.”
