Head of Civil Defence Organisation of Iran Brigadier General Gholam Reza Jalali said it was most likely the US and Israel that committed the cyberattack against the country’s fuel distribution system, in a televised interview on Sunday.
Jalali compared the attack to apparent cyberattacks on Iran’s railroads in July and the Shahid Rajaee Port in May 2020, which he blamed the US and Israel for, and said that they are ‘similar in attack model’ to the one targeting the gas and petrol supply.
The cyberattack came shortly before the anniversary of bloody protests that broke out in November 2019 due to a rise in oil prices. The attack could have fomented an uprising like the one in 2019, according to the General.
The brief outage was caused on Tuesday. After the incident, the gas supply at the gas station was restored bit by bit but had to be operated manually in some cases throughout the day.
SOT, Gholam Reza Jalali, Head of Civil Defence Organisation of Iran (Farsi): “In my opinion, it [cyberattack on gas and petrol stations] was done through the Zionist regime and the Americans.”

SOT, Gholam Reza Jalali, Head of Civil Defence Organisation of Iran (Farsi): “Almost, we can say with certainty that this is an attack from a foreign country. It happened with these goals and for the reasons mentioned. It is similar to other attacks, and there are other cases.” *GRAPHIC AT SOURCE*
SOT, Gholam Reza Jalali, Head of Civil Defence Organisation of Iran (Farsi): “This attack, in fact, took place in the middleware, that is, between hardware and software, and had similarities to the railroad attack, in terms of the type and mechanism of the attack.” *GRAPHIC AT SOURCE*
SOT, Gholam Reza Jalali, Head of Civil Defence Organisation of Iran (Farsi): “Considering, for example, the slogans and spaces in which these [attacks] took place. If we connect them, it is very likely that an incident like the one in November 2019, for petrol crisis, could happen this time in this form, and suppose that they would accuse Iranians and say that, for example, it was done by themselves.” *GRAPHIC AT SOURCE*
