Worshippers returned to Tehran Friday prayers after a 20-month break that had been imposed by the COVID-19 pandemic.

Health protocols were followed to protect hundreds of worshippers during the ceremony at Tehran University. Iran’s National Coronavirus Taskforce, which had ordered a halt to the prayers, authorised its resumption.

Iran remains the worst COVID-hit country in the Middle East. According to the data compiled by Johns Hopkins University, 124,763 have so far died with the virus in Iran.
