The Babylon International Festival kicked off on Thursday, on the grandstands of the Babylonian theatre, following an 18-year hiatus.

Brass bands playing, parachute jump shows, an art exhibition and dance performances could all be seen at the Babylonian theatre.

The festival is scheduled to last for five days, with the participation of many Iraqi, Arab and foreign artists.

The Babylon International Festival was suspended in 2003 due to the US invasion and the deterioration of the security situation that followed.
