Iraq: Salih hails France's partnership as he receives Macron for regional dialogue conference

Iraqi President Barham Salih welcomed his French counterpart Emmanuel Macron, on Saturday, ahead of the regional dialogue conference in the Iraqi capital.

“We held discussions about the aspects of the two countries’ bilateral collaboration and the looming opportunity ahead of us to boost those relations for the benefit of common interests,” Salih stated during a joint press conference with Macron, describing France as “a partner and supporter of Iraq to proceed the battle against terrorism, securing stability and peace in the region.”

“France is a commercial and economic partner, involving in our reconstruction process. Today, the emphasis will be on a package of contracts and cooperative measures between the Iraqi and French governments, engaging French private companies in the energy and other prospects of mutual interests,” Salih added.

The regional dialogue conference is being held, today, Saturday with the participation of nine countries, mostly from Iraq’s regional neighbourhood, along with Arabic and international organizations. The attendees will discuss economic and political collaboration files of regional significance.
