Israel’s military says it has targeted the home of a top Hamas political leader on Sunday.

Footage from the military shows an exploding bomb which it said hit the home of Yahya Sinwar.

The fate and whereabouts of Sinwar is still unclear following the blast.

Israeli airstrikes on Gaza City flattened three buildings and killed at least 33 people overnight, making it the deadliest single attack since heavy fighting broke out between Israel and Hamas militants nearly a week ago.

Rescuers raced to pull survivors and bodies from the rubble, while dozens are still missing.

The Gaza Health Ministry said 10 women and eight children were among those killed.

Palestinian militants fired a barage of rockets at Israel on Sunday afternoon following the strike.

At least 181 Palestinians have been killed in Gaza and 10 in Israel since Monday.

A UN Security Council meeting took place on Sunday, after warnings of a return to “full-scale war”.

The escalation of violence over the last seven days came after weeks of increasing Israeli-Palestinian tension in East Jerusalem, which lead to clashes at a holy site revered by both Muslims and Jews.
