The unpiloted Russian Progress 77P cargo spacecraft with the Pirs docking compartment undocked from the International Space Station, on Monday.

After moving to a safe distance from the ISS, Pirs will reenter Earth’s atmosphere and burn up over the South Pacific. Fireproof parts will be flooded in the non-navigable area of the ocean.

Pirs module has served as a docking port for Soyuz and Progress spacecraft and exit for spacewalks since 2001 for the ISS Russian Segment.

According to Roskosmos, it will be replaced by the Nauka Multipurpose Laboratory Module, which is scheduled to dock with the station on July 29.

The Nauka module launched on July 21 from the Baikonur Cosmodrome in Kazakhstan. It will serve as a new science facility, docking port, and spacewalk airlock for future operations.
