Russia’s Multipurpose Laboratory Module ‘Nauka’ is set to launch on top of a Proton-M rocket from Baikonur Cosmodrome to the International Space Station on Wednesday, July 21.

Following its arrival and installation, Nauka (meaning “science” in Russian), is expected to become the primary laboratory module on the Russian segment of the ISS. The module is expected to dock the ISS on July 29.

Once operational, there will be space for workplaces, cargo storage and equipment to resupply water and oxygen. It will also house an 11-metre European (36 feet) robotic arm (ERA) which will provide assistance during spacewalks and help with installing, deploying and replacing elements in outer space.

The launch is expected to take place at 14:58 GMT. Mandatory credit: NASA TV
