More fisher boats remain docked at the Italian ports following a spike in diesel prices.

Many fishermen fear a job loss as going to the sea becomes more expensive.

“In average each fishing boat, with the diesel reaching up to one euro, the consumption is 1800, 2000 euros per day. With these numbers we can no longer go to sea. The situation is very dramatic”, said Domenico Asaro who keeps his boat docked at Sicily’s Mazara del Vallo.

The prices of fuel reached record-breaking levels following Russia’s military offensive in Ukraine, affecting various sectors of the economy and trade.
