People could be seen sunbathing, swimming in the sea at Palermo’s Mondello beach on Friday, as the mercury hit 22C in Sicily amid an uncommon warm end to 2021 in parts of Europe.
“It’s a nice day to close out the year in style in Mondello,” a beachgoer said.
Some parts of Italy are expected to reach 15C above the seasonal average at the start of 2022. France and Spain also registered oddly high temperatures during the week.
