Several hundred climate activists marched as part of the ‘Global March for Climate Justice’ in Milan on Saturday, as G20 environment ministers prepared for the COP26 meeting in Glasgow, scheduled for November.
Titled Youth4Climate, 400 climate activists from 180 countries met at a three-day summit in the Italian financial capital. They marched with banners through the city centre, facing police officers in riot gear. Artistic performances could be seen afterward performed by protesters.
In a video message on Wednesday, Pope Francis thanked the young climate activists for their commitment and praised their vision in the midst of historic change.
Participants at the Milan summit called for more accountability and more official roles for young people.
