Italy: Palermo barber shop offers vaccine and haircut combo promotion

A barber shop in Palermo has kicked off a new initiative to help the local vaccination campaign, which combines a haircut with a vaccine. Footage filmed at the hairdressers in Palermo on Thursday shows delighted clients receiving snips and shaves while waiting for a vaccine shot.

In cooperation with the local health authorities, which are seeking to increase the possibilities of locals having easy access to vaccines, this unique promotion was made possible

“I called the commissioner Costa, who has been very gentile, he said yes. They assessed the premises for sanitary requirements, and he said ‘Yes, we can do that.’ My aim is to bring forward a project that does end in Palermo, but one that starts off in Palermo and could become a national movement, involving all of my colleagues in Italy, so that the union makes the strength,” said barber and leader of the initiative Nuncio Reina.

Clients taking part in the initiative shared their feelings about the idea and all interviewed saw it in a positive light.

“The 15 minutes of waiting after the vaccine passed like this are very pleasant, for me it could become even thirty minutes. What an absolute pleasure,” explained local resident Vincenzo Cefalu.

SOT, Tania Guzzardo, Local resident (Italian): “I had the third dose of vaccine in this centre of great professionals and friends. I was very pleased to do it and it is a duty that absolutely everyone should do, absolutely.”

For those who want to get vaccinated even with the first dose, something we do with great enthusiasm, as for us it is a great value. We need to vaccinate as many people as possible, we do it and we will continue to do so. Today we are at the barber shop, but we are also in the court of appeal and this morning we were at the Astalli Centre, which as you is an important centre, where migrants receive help. We do not stop here, we are looking to reach everybody, in other places to vaccinate as many people as possible.”
