Water cannons were deployed to push back protesters who are blocking the Italian port of Trieste in defiance of the country’s mandatory ‘Green Pass’ on Monday.

Police units were mobilised to disperse the protesters who had organised a sit-in in front of the port entrance.

Protests at the docks have been ongoing since Friday after the so-called COVID ‘Green Pass’ became mandatory for all workers in Italy.

“Green Pass’ a form of evidence of vaccination or recovery from COVID-19, but it may also include a negative test result.

The measure which was approved in September has been described as one of the world’s strictest COVID measures.

Workers without a health pass are suspended without pay and could face fines up to 1,500 euros ($1,730). The measure was reportedly introduced to encourage more workers to get their shots.
