Clashes broke out between anti-COVID pass protesters and the police.

From October 15 the ‘green pass’ will be mandatory for all workers in Italy.

According to local media, around 10,000 protesters, including far-right groups, rallied against the measure.

Police deployed water cannons and tear gas to disperse the crowd.

Protesters blocked streets with makeshift barricades.

Several people were detained.

A group of protesters tried to reach the Prime Minister’s office while another stormed the Federation of Italian Trade Unions’ building (CGIL).

CGIL Secretary-General Maurizio Landini condemned the storming of the headquarters.
