Trade unions and liberal activists gathered in Rome on Saturday to denounce fascism, which revealed its nasty head in Rome last week when a rally against the government’s ‘Green Pass’ policy was held by far-right groups, including the Forza Nuova party.

The ‘Green Pass’ health certificate is a form of evidence of vaccination or recovery from COVID-19. The certificate may also be used to present evidence of a negative test result.

During the protests last week, clashes broke out with the police and the headquarters of the Italian General Confederation of Labour (CGIL) trade union were stormed.

Politicians and attendees called for the ban of the far-right Forza Nuova party as well as a dissolution of all neo-fascist parties in the aftermath of the protest.

The ‘Green Pass’ has become compulsory across workplaces in Italy since Friday, with workers being required to present a valid form of the certificate. Workers who fail to comply with the requirement are set to be sent home without pay.
