Japan: Drone show lights up Tokyo sky during Olympics opening ceremony

1,800 drones flew together over the Olympic Stadium in Tokyo and formed a globe during Friday’s opening ceremony.

Several Tokyo residents that have been banned from attending the event as well as most of Olympics competition, were watching the drone show from outside the stadium.

The Japanese government has only permitted journalists and special guests to be allowed entrance into the venue, amid fears that the delta variant of the virus could spread if normal spectators were allowed entry. The Games kicked off on Friday, with strict city-wide measures in place.
