Fireworks lit up the skies above the Tokyo Olympic stadium on Sunday as the 32nd Summer Olympic games came to a close in the Japanese capital.

Local residents were seen taking pictures and filming the fireworks under strict police surveillance.

The Olympic Games which began on July 23 ended on August 8 with the Paralympic Games expected to be held in the Japanese capital between August 24 and September 5.
