Spectators braved a rainy day in Tokyo to watch the Paralympics marathons during the final day of the Games, Sunday.
Olympic officials could be seen patrolling the fences lining the marathon route to dissuade bystanders from standing close to one another and watching the event, as the Japanese capital battles a surge in COVID-19 cases.
Tokyo 2020 featured five marathon events, two for women, three for men, with Switzerland, Australia, Morroco, China and Japan winning gold.
On the final day of the Paralympics, China has already secured first place in the medal table.

SOT, Local Spectator (Japanese): “Of course, I understand that corona is widespread and refrain from exposing myself, and I understand that there is a risk of infection. However, seeing the athletes doing their best gives me courage and excitement. I am very happy to have come here.”

SOT, Local Spectator: “56 years ago I saw the Tokyo 1964 Marathon. So I saw [UNINTELLIGIBLE], so I am very looking forward to seeing Olympics and Paralympics.”

SOT, Local Spectator (Japanese): “I was certainly impressed [watching the marathon]. I understand [governor of Tokyo Yuriko] Koike hope children will be watching.”
