Japanese billionaire Yusaku Maezawa said he hopes his upcoming space flight will inspire people to believe in their dreams, speaking in Baikonur Cosmodrome on Tuesday before his 12-day voyage.

“I think that the very act of encouraging young people to believe in their dreams and to know that they can do it would be my contribution,” the 46-year-old fashion tycoon said.

“We will fly the Soyuz, and I have great confidence, considering the great history of this spacecraft, the great number of real achievements, and the high assessment of the technical condition,” he added.

Maezawa will be accompanied by his assistant, Yozo Hirano, and the Russian cosmonaut Alexander Misurkin on the flight to the International Space Station (ISS)

Misurkin said the crew have planned “a number of experiments according to the Russian scientific program” during the space flight.

The crew will depart for the ISS from Baikonur Cosmodrome on December 8.
