‘‘Kill the Bill’ Protest in Bristol Turns Violent as Rioters Clash with Police’

Twenty police officers were injured and two police vans set on fire when a “kill the bill” protest in Bristol descended into violence.

What began as a peaceful demonstration against the controversial new Police and Crime bill - which would give officers new powers to disperse protests - transformed as the evening wore on, with a mob of far-left rioters attacking police, vehicles and buildings.

A number of officers sustained injuries including broken bones, and two police vans were set on fire. The windows to the city centre’s Bridewell Police Station were also smashed in.

UK Home Secretary Priti Patel condemned the events as “thuggery and disorder”.
