Crowds of migrants were seen sleeping outside the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) centre in the Libyan city of Tripoli, on Saturday, as temperatures begin to fall throughout the country.

The migrants laid in rows on the street outside the centre, covered from head-to-toe in blankets, with hanging canopies providing shelter to one area.

“We have been here for 16 days now, and we lack everything. The situation is tragic. We lack life essentials, and there is no humanitarian work that provide us with what we need. We are here as refugees,” said Muhammad Abdullah, one migrant from Darfur.

Over the past few weeks, temperatures have fallen in the city, with 13 degrees Celsius reported on Saturday morning.

On Monday, the UNHCR suspended activities at its Tripoli CDC amid a wave of migrant arrests carried out by police, citing security concerns for staff and migrants at the centre.
