LIVE: Bezos gives presser following Blue Origin's first tourist space flight

Amazon founder and former CEO Jeff Bezos, joined by Mark Bezos, Wally Funk, and Oliver Daemen, gives a press conference following Blue Origin’s first human flight into space on Tuesday, July 20. The New Shepard rocket was launched from a remote location in the desert of West Texas.

The rocket’s takeoff marked the beginning of Blue Origin’s commercial operation. Bezos and his brother Mike, who were both on board, were joined by 82-year-old aviator Wally Funk, who in the 60s was denied the chance to go to space because she was a woman, and 18-year-old Oliver Daemen from the Netherlands, who became the youngest person to ever travel to space.

Daemen flew in place of the still-anonymous $28 million (€23.7 million) winning bidder of last month’s charity auction, who could not fly on the mission “due to scheduling conflicts,” according to Blue Origin. Mandatory Credits: Blue Origin
