The Christian Democratic Union (CDU) party’s praesidium and federal executive hold a press conference at party headquarters in Berlin on Monday, October 11.

Following their first meeting since chairman Armin Laschet announced his readiness to step down.
On Thursday, Laschet said he is ready to resign as head of the CDU, almost two weeks after the party’s defeat to the Social Democrats in the federal elections with the worst ever result.
