CSU chairman and Bavarian Prime Minister Markus Soder is set to hold a press conference following the meeting​ of his party on Monday, September 27, alongside CSU general secretary Markus Blume and top candidate for the federal election Alexander Dobrindt.

The event is held the next day after tens of millions of Germans cast their ballots to determine the country’s next government that will eventually decide who will succeed Angela Merkel after 16 years as Germany’s chancellor.

According to preliminary results, the Social Democratic Party (SPD) garnered 25,7 percent of the votes, winning the most seats in the Bundestag, with the Christian Democratic Union (CDU) following with 24,1 percent, Alliance 90/The Greens 14,8 percent and the Free Democratic Party (FDP) 11,5 percent of the votes.
