Facebook whistleblower and former product manager Frances Haugen speaks before the European Parliament Committee on Internal Market and Consumer Protection on Monday, November 8 in Brussels.
The committee will discuss the negative impact on users of big tech companies’ products and business models, and how EU digital rules can address these issues. Haugen appears before the committee ahead of the vote on the Digital Service Act (DSA), a draft law presented by the European Commission on December 2020 that aims to create a safer digital space.
According to the whistleblower, Facebook knows its algorithms lead teens to pro-anorexia content, and that it boosts extreme content to generate reaction amongst its users. Frances Haugen’s visit to the EU Parliament follows her testimonies to the US Congress on October 5 as well as UK Parliament on October 25.
