Serbian tennis player Novak Djokovic returns to Belgrade on Monday, January 17 after being deported from Australia for having lost an appeal in a deportation trial case. A full federal court dismissed the tennis star 11-day battle to restore his visa.

Djokovic had travelled to Melbourne in order to play in the Australian Open tennis tournament but was later held in a hotel because he didn’t have proof of vaccination against COVID-19, which is criteria for travellers entering Australia.

Australian immigration minister Alex Hawke cancelled the visa arguing his presence in Australia could incite ““civil unrest”” and encourage others to eschew COVDI-19 vaccination.
