Ruptly is live from Melbourne on Sunday, January 16, as the court hearing on tennis star Novak Djokovic’s case takes place, a day before the tennis Australian Open begins. The hearing is set to resume at 17:45 Melbourne time (Sunday, 06:45 GMT).

The hearing started on Sunday, January 16, 09:30 Melbourne time (Saturday, 22:30 GMT). Djokovic faces being deported ahead of the tournament after his visa was cancelled for the second time on Friday.

The reigning champion had traveled to Melbourne last week in order to play in the Australian Open tennis tournament but was initially barred from entering the country as he failed to meet the COVID-19 entry requirements due to his vaccination status.

A judge decided earlier in the week that the star tennis player would not be deported from Australia, allowing for his release from detention and the resumption of training, but after a decision made by the country’s Federal Immigration Minister, the visa was once again revoked.
