Ruptly is live from Berlin on Wednesday, January 26, as Germany’s Bundestag holds a first debate on a COVID-19 vaccine mandate for all adults. The debate follows Economy Minister Robert Habeck answering questions from Members of Parliament.

Chancellor Olaf Scholz said earlier that Germany’s planned mandatory vaccination would cover everyone over the age of 18. Federal Health Minister Karl Lauterbach believes it is important that a compulsory vaccination comes into force as early as April.

The number of cases in Germany is reaching previously unknown heights. Last Wednesday, the Robert Koch Institute reported more than 100,000 infections within one day for the first time since the beginning of the COVID-19 pandemic.
