Ruptly is live from La Palma in the Canary Islands on Monday, October 3 as the volcano situated in the La Cumbre Vieja area continues to erupt.

Last Tuesday, lava emerging from the volcano reached Atlantic waters. By Friday, the volcano has blown open two more lava-spewing fissures, with local authorities warning of “intense” activity in the area.

The Cumbre Vieja volcano began its fiery eruption on September 19 and has thus far prompted evacuations of more than 6,000 people from numerous villages, also destroying more than 800 buildings.

La Palma is one of Spain’s Canary Islands and has a population of about 83,000.
