Olaf Scholz is due to be sworn in as the next German chancellor at the Bundestag in Berlin, on Wednesday, December 8.

Scholz is officially stepping into the chancellor position following months of coalition negotiations between the SPD, the Greens and the FDP.

The coalition agreement, which was recently finalised, has already been voted on by the SPD and is expected to be approved by the other two parties by Monday.

The SPD won the September Bundestag election with 25.7 percent of votes, paving the way for Scholz to take over from Angela Merkel, who held office for 16 years.
