The SPD candidate for chancellor, Olaf Scholz, rallied on Munsterplatz square in Bonn, Wednesday, just a few days before the Bundestag elections on Sunday.
“I am known for my Hanseatic restraint, but nevertheless I would like to say this sentence: another federal government led by the CDU/CSU would cost Germany prosperity and jobs, and that must not happen,” the candidate told the crowd, after addressing the pandemic and the economy.
After Bonn, Scholz now heads to Cologne to hold his last rally of the campaign.

SOT, Olaf Scholz, SPD chancellor candidate (German): “Corona is still there. But also this can be said at this point: In the meantime, many citizens of this country have been vaccinated; that is over fifty million. And therefore there are two things that can be clearly stated here. As far as we have come, we can say that there will not have to be a new lockdown and the children, the students can go to school again. That has to happen in this country and that is possible now.”

SOT, Olaf Scholz, SPD chancellor candidate (German): “In the first year of the new government, we will raise the expansion targets, we will raise the expansion targets for the power grid, and we will change all the laws so that we can finish on time. The approval of a wind turbine cannot take six years, it will be done in six months.”

SOT, Olaf Scholz, SPD chancellor candidate (German): “It is also embarrassing when the State Premier of North Rhine-Westphalia now says that it could not have been known, that the studies were being done now, and that it could not have been known before that we would need more electricity. I tell you what can be known about it: people who have not recognized what is needed in this most important question of Germany’s industrial future must not be entrusted with the government of this country.”

SOT, Olaf Scholz, SPD chancellor candidate (German): “I am known for my Hanseatic restraint, but nevertheless I would like to say this sentence: another federal government led by the CDU/CSU would cost Germany prosperity and jobs, and that must not happen.”
