Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov and the UN Special envoy of the Secretary-General for Syria Geir Pedersen are holding bilateral talks in Moscow on Wednesday, February 23.

The parties are expected to discuss a wide range of issues relating to the settlement process in Syria, with special attention to be given to the political area.

On Tuesday, Syrian Foreign Minister Faisal Mekdad said during an event in Moscow that his country supports Russian President Putin’s decision to recognise two separatist regions in Ukraine, the self-proclaimed Donetsk People’s Republic, and Lugansk People’s Republic.
