LIVE: NASA holds press conference on collection of first Martian samples

NASA is holding a press conference on Friday, September 10 in Washington DC, following the announcement that its Perseverance Rover has collected two samples of the Red Planet.

The rover collected its first sample four days ago and the second one on Wednesday, September 8. Both of them are drilled-out cores of a Martian rock and are now sealed in its designated titanium tube.

Perseverance landed inside the Red Planet’s Jezero Crater on February 18 and is expected to collect a dozen more samples before returning to Earth for analysis in approximately ten years from now.
