An peaceful demonstration took place in front of the presidential residence in Asuncion on Saturday. Attendees mourned the death of Paraguayan influencer Cristina ‘Vita’ Aranda and demanded justice for the murdered young woman.
Aranda was one of two people who were fatally shot during the Ja’umina music festival last Sunday night. Five more were wounded when the gunman opened fire on attendees.
“It has been known for years that drug trafficking and the mafia have been installed in all branches of government. It is something that is known, but nothing is ever done to change it because nobody believes that they have enough power. [What happened to] Vita Aranda is just one of the consequences that we experience every day,” stated one attendee at the vigil.
Aranda was married to Paraguayan international football player Ivan Torres.
