Hooch’s tongue was cut and his ears removed during his time in a dogfighting ring. Now, this is how he eats. I just place it right in the back of his mouth very gently. For a long time, there was no hope for him 
but he escaped from that horrific situation. He ended up at a shelter and was at the risk of being put down before Marley’s Mutts Dog Rescue rescued him. They just hacked his ears off. In the beginning, the rescue group had to figure out how Hooch was going to eat.

When we first rescued him, he was fed through an esophageal feeding tube. That’s how he got all of his water and his nutrition. But over time, Hooch learned to drink on his own. He drinks kind of like a horse.

And watch how Zach’s dad feeds Hooch. He’s a gentle boy. Here you go, baby. Good boy. Hooch did give his family a scare though when he ate a towel. He consumed an entire towel, then got stuck in this area of the intestine. Got his stomach wide open, pulled out the towel. Fortunately, he fully recovered from that incident.

Since his rescue, Hooch has experienced many new things. He gets to go on walks with his family. He has participated in support programs like prison rehab. Today, Hooch is living his best life. And he knows no matter what, he’ll be loved. That’s just a glorious, glorious strand of drool.
