A caravan of migrants arrived on Tuesday night in Pijijiapan, in the state of Chiapas, where they camped to rest before continuing their way north.
The migrants also held a candlelight vigil, coinciding with the Day of the Dead, to pray and demand that the authorities, the National Guard and the National Migration Institute do not stop them.
“We ask you, father, for all the people who are here, needing more of you,” prayed a migrant, “and that you keep us safe and you take care of us on this path, that you keep safe all the children that are here.”
Thousands of people, many of them minors and pregnant women, are part of a new migrant caravan whose goal is to reach Mexico City to request asylum and the documents that allow them to work in the country.
