Groups of Haitian migrants were seen crossing the Rio Grande in both directions, near Mexico’s Ciudad Acuna, on Wednesday as they attempt to reach the United States.
The humanitarian situation has been deteriorating at a makeshift camp in Ciudad Acuna, where hundreds of migrants have been waiting to cross the border.
“We are staying amidst the rubbish, children are sick, there are no medicines. They said they will bring a doctor days ago but still there is nobody,” said a migrant who said she’s been in the camp for nearly a week.
The US began seven daily deportation flights to Haiti on Wednesday after thousands of migrants from the disaster-stricken country crossed the border in recent days. In recent months, Haiti has been rocked by a devastating earthquake and the assassination of its president.

SOT, Migrant (Spanish): “We are staying amidst the rubbish, children are sick, there are no medicines. They said they will bring a doctor days ago but still there is nobody. It is an abuse. We need our human rights, that they help us.”
Another migrant (Spanish): “We need our human rights to be expressed here, please.”
