Moscow has 'responsibility' for Ukraine war threat - Steinmeier at re-election as German president

Russia is responsible for the possibility of conflict in eastern Europe, said German President Frank-Walter Steinmeier, as he was re-elected as Germany’s President for another term in Berlin on Sunday.

Speaking during his acceptance speech, Steinmeier stated :“You can debate as long as you want about the reasons behind the growing alienation between Russia and the West but the following is undebatable. We are in the middle of a danger of military conflict, a war in eastern Europe, and Russia is responsible for it”.

“President Putin. Let go of the sling around Ukraine’s neck, help us look for a way to keep the peace in Europe,” added Steinmeier.

Steinmeier was unanimously re-elected German president by delegates from the entire country, including figures such as football coach Hansi Flick, rapper Lady Bitch Ray, and others that were chosen to cast their ballot alongside ministers of parliament.

Steinmeier reportedly received 1,045 out of 1,425 votes in the first ballot and is set to stay in his role for another four years.
