Navalny Ally Leonid Volkov Blames Putin’s Henchmen for Hammer Attack

A key supporter of the late Russian opposition leader Alexei Navalny has been assaulted with a hammer near his home in the Lithuanian capital of Vilnius.

Leonid Volkov said he sustained a broken arm and his leg was struck with a hammer.

The identity of the alleged assailant remains unknown, but Mr Volkov claimed the attack was politically motivated.

Lithuanian police are investigating the assault on 43-year-old Leonid Volkov, as the perpetrator and motive remain unknown.

According to Mr. Navalny’s spokesperson, Kira Yarmysh, the assailant broke a window of Mr Volkov’s car, sprayed tear gas into his eyes, and proceeded to strike him with a hammer.

Ivan Zhdanov, a member of the Navalny team, shared images on social media of Mr Volkov with a bloodied lower left leg and visible bruising on his head.
