Protesters and police clashed in Amsterdam on Sunday during a rally against the COVID-19 passport attended by thousands of people under the slogan ‘Samen voor Nederland’ literally ‘Together for Netherlands’.
The clashes began when authorities isolated a group of 50 people wearing black clothes and carrying flares from the main march. The scuffles ended when the police released the group.
The new regulations mandating a COVID pass was introduced on September 25 and made proof of vaccination, recent recovery or negative test mandatory for entering public venues such as cinemas, restaurants or theatres.
The Dutch government has justified the pass as necessary to prevent the spread of COVID-19 with the introduction of the rules tied to the relaxation of social distancing, and necessary capacity limitations, requirements for restaurants, cinemas, and other establishments.
