Hundreds of firefighters battled two large wildfires around Portland’s suburbs on Friday.

The Beachie Fire and Riverside Fire were close to merging near the most populated part of Oregon.

Governor Kate Brown said dozens of people are missing in other parts of the state.

More than 40,000 people from Oregon were evacuated with up to 500,000 on standby, although no official death count has been published at least eight fatalities have been reported.
