West Coast Wildfires: Fierce Blazes Caused Unprecedented Destruction as Heatwave Continues

Thousands of people have been evacuated as devastating wildfires continue to rage across the Northwest of the US, fuelled by strong winds and high temperatures.

Blazes have been reported in California, where more than 40 fires are burning, but also in Oregon, Utah, Nevada, Arizona, Idaho, Wyoming and Montana.

The fires have left small towns destroyed, with Whitman County Sheriff Brett Myers estimating that 80% of the structures have been lost in Malden, Washington state.

Experts say there is a strong link between the wildfires and climate change.
