Afghans were stranded at the border on Friday, after Pakistan closed the Chaman crossing citing ‘security concerns,’ the day before.
People were seen carrying their belongings next to their vehicles, walking around next to sellers and sitting down, waiting for the border to reopen.
“Trapped people do not leave Pakistan, nor Afghanistan. We appeal to the Prime Minister of Pakistan Imran Khan. Passengers, women, children, and patients stranded at the border should be allowed to enter,” a Pakistani citizen, Sher khan stated.
Traffic at the border has increased since the Taliban takeover with thousands entering Pakistan daily. The Pakistani government said they would not allow refugees to cross anymore due to overwhelming numbers.
Pakistan currently hosts an estimated three million Afghanistan refugees.

SOT, Sher khan, Pakistani citizen (Urdu): “My name is Sher Khan. I am resident of Quetta. I went to Spin Boldak, Afghanistan, to attend a wedding. I returned to Pakistan. There was a lot of trouble on the way to Boldak. The women and children were trapped due to the rush of people. The women fell wounded. Due to the stampede, many people fell under the feet of the people. Two people were also killed. Trapped people do not leave Pakistan, nor Afghanistan. We appeal to the Prime Minister of Pakistan Imran Khan. Passengers, women, children, and patients stranded at the border should be allowed to enter.”
