Philadelphia Riots: Stores Looted After Protest Over Police Shooting Turns Violent

Protests turned violent in Philadelphia for a second night as demonstrators took to the streets in anger over the fatal police shooting of Walter Wallace, a 27-year-old black man.

Officers said Wallace ignored orders to drop the knife he was carrying before opening fire on the father of nine, but his family told reporters they had called an ambulance, not the police, to aid with a mental health crisis he was having.

Looting was reported in West Philadelphia after peaceful protest descended into rioting. Police reinforcements were deployed along with the National Guard to bring the unrest to an end.
