Poland: Ex-Ukrainian leader Poroshenko boards flight to Kiev, faces treason charges back home

Former Ukrainian President Petro Poroshenko spoke briefly to a crowd of journalists at Warsaw’s Chopin Airport on his way to return to Ukraine amid charges of treason.

Poroshenko faces allegations from the Ukrainian government of being linked to financing separatist fighters in eastern Ukraine via the illegal sale of coal during his time in office, among other charges.

Regarding the allegations, Poroshenko commented: “I’m not afraid, because the people of Ukraine are with me and the truth is with me.”

Poroshenko has maintained his innocence.
