Putin endorses participation of foreign volunteer fighters in Ukraine

Russian President Vladimir Putin endorsed the participation of foreign volunteer fighters joining the defence forces of Donetsk and Lugansk People’s Republics.

“If you see that there are people who volunteer, who want to come and help people who live in Donbass, we have to help them to do that. We should help them to move to the conflict zone”, Putin addressed the request by the Defence Minister Sergei Shoigu during a meeting on Friday.

Shoigu said his ministry received over 16,000 applications from volunteers from the Middle East.

“We know many of them, they helped in the fight against ISIS (a terrorist organization banned in the Russian Federation) in the most difficult time, in the last ten years”, Defence Minister confirmed.
