With over 500 new cases of COVID-19-related deaths reported on October 27 across Romania, the cemetery of Slobozia is struggling to find space to bury the deceased, as seen on Wednesday.

At the graveyard of the capital city of Ialomita County, lines of dug-out graves can be seen as mourners were gathering for funerals. Grave diggers were seen at several places at the cemetery, digging out new graves.

“For example, we bury one’s father today, and the next day his son comes as well—the whole family. We’re burying both vaccinated and not vaccinated. The reason is that we don’t have what we need in Romania. Not just in Slobozia,” said Viorel Moraru, a grave digger.

Romania is currently experiencing a significant increase in coronavirus cases, with a high number of fatalities and hospitals running out of capacity.
